India, a land of diverse traditions and vibrant festivals, is gearing up for the grand celebration of Chhat Puja 2023. Chhat Puja, a significant Hindu festival, is a time of deep reverence to the sun god and a unique cultural experience. To ensure a seamless and safe travel experience for the countless devotees and travelers heading to their hometowns, Indian Railways has announced the operation of 283 special trains during this festive season.

The Significance of Chhat Puja

Chhat Puja, predominantly celebrated in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Nepal, is a four-day festival dedicated to Lord Surya (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya (Chhat Goddess). The rituals of Chhat Puja are intricate and demand strict adherence to tradition. Devotees offer their prayers to the setting sun and the rising sun on the banks of rivers, ponds, or other water bodies, expressing their gratitude for life, light, and energy.

The Travel Rush During Chhat Puja

Chhat Puja witnesses an enormous migration of people returning to their ancestral homes to celebrate the festival with their families. The travel rush during this period can be overwhelming, with thousands of devotees making their way to the holy waters of rivers like the Ganges and the Kosi to observe the rituals.

Indian Railways’ Initiative

Understanding the surge in travel demand during Chhat Puja, the Indian Railways has taken proactive measures to ease the journey of passengers. The decision to run 283 special trains is a part of this strategy. These special trains will connect major cities with the regions where Chhat Puja is celebrated with great fervor. The objective is to ensure that passengers can reach their destinations comfortably and on time.

Enhanced Facilities and Services

Indian Railways is not only increasing the number of trains but also improving the facilities and services available to passengers. This includes enhanced security measures, clean and well-maintained stations, and special arrangements to cater to the specific needs of Chhat Puja travelers.

Book Your Tickets in Advance

With the festival just around the corner, it is advisable for passengers to book their tickets well in advance to secure their journey. This proactive approach will help travelers avoid last-minute rush and inconvenience.

A Celebration of Faith and Togetherness

Chhat Puja is not just a festival; it’s a celebration of faith, unity, and togetherness. Devotees come together to offer their prayers, seek blessings, and partake in a grand communal celebration. Indian Railways’ commitment to running special trains during this time underscores the importance of ensuring that this sacred and culturally rich festival can be celebrated with ease.

As Chhat Puja approaches, the railway stations will see a flurry of activity as people from all walks of life embark on their journeys. The Indian Railways’ dedication to making these journeys comfortable is a testament to the spirit of inclusivity and the celebration of diversity that defines India.

“Special Trains will run from major destinations across the country on railway routes like Delhi- Patna, Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Danapur-Saharsa, Danapur- Bengaluru, Ambala-Saharsa, Muzaffarpur-Yesvantpur, Puri-Patna, Okha-Naharlagun, Sealdah-New Jalpaiguri, Kochuveli-Bengaluru, Benaras- Mumbai, Howrah-Raxaul etc. During 2022, Indian Railways had notified 2614 trips of 216 Puja Special trains,” the Ministry of Railways said in a press release.
