India, a land of diverse traditions and vibrant festivals, is gearing up for the grand celebration of Chhat Puja 2023. Chhat Puja, a significant Hindu festival, is a time of deep reverence to the sun god and a unique cultural experience. To ensure a seamless and safe travel experience for the countless devotees and travelers heading to their hometowns, Indian Railways has announced the operation of 283 special trains during this festive season.
The Significance of Chhat Puja
Chhat Puja, predominantly celebrated in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Nepal, is a four-day festival dedicated to Lord Surya (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya (Chhat Goddess). The rituals of Chhat Puja are intricate and demand strict adherence to tradition. Devotees offer their prayers to the setting sun and the rising sun on the banks of rivers, ponds, or other water bodies, expressing their gratitude for life, light, and energy.
The Travel Rush During Chhat Puja
Chhat Puja witnesses an enormous migration of people returning to their ancestral homes to celebrate the festival with their families. The travel rush during this period can be overwhelming, with thousands of devotees making their way to the holy waters of rivers like the Ganges and the Kosi to observe the rituals.
