It may have taken a while to get to my mouth, but I’ve found the best Trout fish on the planet. The Johnson’s Cafe & Hotel is one of the oldest establishments in Manali. It is a must visit place for nature and food lovers alike. Set up by Pia and Mehul Johnson, it was inaugurated in August 2005. The Johnson’s consist of a hotel, spa and is home to the finest restaurants in the valley known for serving the Himachal speciality trout fish – The Johnson’s Cafe.
At Johnson’s property, you will feel at home even sitting miles away from it. While coming back from Sethan (a small village near Manali) we had a stayover of about 3 hours in Manali. We decided to visit The Cafe which is just 15 mins away from Manali bus stand or Mall road. You can easily walk till there enjoying the view Mall road offers. The cosy cafe is beautifully nestled in the Himalayas. It offers a perfect view of the valley making it an ideal place for couples and travellers looking to spend some precious moments together.
The cafe has alluring wooden interiors with alfresco seating arrangement amidst the lush lawns of the Johnson hotel. The cafe is popular as a breakfast joint as well as a party hub. Party nights, bonfire and occasional wine tasting sessions make it perfect for those who want to getaway from city chaos. If you get a chance to have dinner here, grab a table at the café’s terrace under the star lit sky. The first trout speciality restaurant in the country showcases a wide variety of cuisines. Great food, plush drinks and perfect ambience is what The Johnson’s Cafe has to offer you. It has both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The happy hours are from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Due to shortage of time, we decided to treat ourselves with their Trout speciality dishes. We were completely taken back by the local ingredients used for preparation. The Masala Trout served with steamed rice and salad was lip-smacking finger licking good!
Here are some Specialities offered by the cafe: Smoked Trout, Roast Lamb, Wood fired oven pizza, Homemade chocolate cake, Peking duck and Apple crumble.
Final Verdict: The Johnson’s Cafe has very welcoming vibes offering an experience like no other restaurants in Manali. We are surely visiting this place again to try other dishes they have to offer. Don’t miss your chance to visit this place if you are in Manali.
